Every October just as the weather is beginning
to turn from summer to fall, The Albuquerque International Balloon
Fiesta comes to town. As you drive into work during the week, it is not
uncommon to see a couple hundred hot air balloons in the sky. On the
weekends there are mass ascensions that have included up to 750 hot air
balloons being launched in waves until all of them are airborne. There
are all sorts of races and competitions for the pilots to participate
in. Spectators are invited to go down to "the field" and wander amongst
the colorful giants as they are inflated and taking off. Another event
in the evening is the Balloon Glow where the pilots inflate the
balloons and fire the burners on high to illuminate them against the
evening sky. This event has been celebrated every year since 1971 and
truly transforms the city, presenting residents and visitors alike with
Enchanted Skies. |
