While living in
exile in San Francisco, I came upon
these delicate and lovely flowers that were golden yellow with vibrant
orange
centers. They grew wild on the edges of open space parks and the small
areas of
undeveloped land between costal towns. I must have photographed
hundreds of
them, but was never satisfied with the results.
I enrolled in a
class on water-based screenprinting
to expand my knowledge and my skills. Although the technology still
wasn’t
quite where I wanted it to be (I wouldn’t find anything close to what I
was looking for for about another 11
years), it
was still fun to try something out of my normal way of doing things.
Since
everything was done by hand, I had to choose a simple subject. What
could be
more simple than the California
Poppies that brought me so much joy?
